Community Engagement & Leadership

Community engagement is a fundamental part of the culture at Garcia Architecture. From its earliest days, the firm has embraced the belief that professional leadership extends beyond the office and beyond the projects we design. We believe architects have a responsibility to contribute to the communities they serve and to help shape a better future through civic involvement, volunteerism, advocacy, and public service.

This culture was established by our founder, Rafael Garcia, whose commitment to community service began long before he founded the firm. Throughout his life and career, Rafael has dedicated thousands of hours to volunteer service, leadership roles, and community outreach initiatives focused on education, youth development, and improving opportunities for underserved populations. His example helped establish a firm-wide expectation that leadership includes active participation in the civic life of our communities.

Today, that commitment remains deeply embedded within Garcia Architecture. Our principals and staff regularly serve on professional, nonprofit, educational, and community boards and committees. Managing Principal Matt Kauffman has spent more than two decades advancing the architectural profession and the built environment through leadership in professional organizations, legislative advocacy, public policy development, and collaboration with elected officials and industry partners. His work reflects the firm's belief that meaningful community impact often requires engagement beyond the boundaries of individual projects.

We believe architects offer unique perspectives that can benefit the broader community, and we see it as our responsibility to share this insight. We also encourage our staff to engage in causes they are passionate about, contributing their expertise and leadership to make a meaningful impact.
